Please be aware that cannabis and related laws vary. Programming in this track is designed to inform attendees about this fast-changing industry, and does not promote the use or sale of illegal drugs.

Each year, SXSW calls upon its creative global community to help identify innovative new ideas and the visionaries behind them. The majority of Conference sessions are sourced and voted on by the SX community from 2023 PanelPicker®, along with input from SXSW Staff and the PanelPicker Evaluator Committee.

All badges receive primary access to sessions in this track. Stay tuned for Cannabis programming announcements throughout the season.

CANNABIS EVOLUTION: CULTURE, EQUITY & OPPORTUNITY
Since “recreational” cannabis was first legalized in Colorado and Washington states in 2012, the entire “weed space” has been evolving at an incredible rate. Alongside all this change, however, some aspects of cannabis culture have remained stagnant: in particular, the general demographics of the cannabis economy and the ongoing impact of the War on Drugs on low-income communities and people of color.

Join Bella Thorne, Weldon Angelos, Laura Barrón-López, Kyle Kazan, and SupaPeach as they discuss the state of the industry today, how we got here, and what changes — federal and local — they want to see made to the fastest-growing sector of the American economy as it continues to become more equitable, and ubiquitous.
