As a media partner for the 20th anniversary of the Emerald Cup in Oakland, I had the privilege of experiencing this iconic event in a way that truly resonated with me. The Emerald Cup has always been more than just a cannabis event—it’s a gathering of like-minded individuals, a celebration of the culture, and a showcase of the industry’s progress. This year, as I walked through the event, I couldn’t help but reflect on the significance of this milestone and the joy of reconnecting with old friends, discovering new brands, and soaking in the atmosphere that only the Emerald Cup can offer.

Reconnecting with the NorCal Community

One of the highlights of this year’s Emerald Cup was the chance to reconnect with friends from Northern California who I don’t often see down in Southern California. The cannabis community in NorCal has always had a unique vibe—rooted in tradition, innovation, and a deep respect for the plant. It was heartening to catch up with these familiar faces, share stories, and discuss the latest developments in the industry. These are the relationships that have been built over years of shared passion, and events like the Emerald Cup provide the perfect backdrop for rekindling those connections.

Seeing these friends again reminded me of the tight-knit nature of the cannabis community, particularly in NorCal, where the legacy of the plant runs deep. The conversations we had were not just about business, but about the culture, the challenges, and the victories that have shaped our industry. It’s moments like these that reinforce the importance of community in the cannabis world, and I’m grateful to the Emerald Cup for providing a space where we can come together and celebrate our shared journey.

A Curated Selection of Brands and Products

While the attendance at this year’s Emerald Cup wasn’t as large as in previous years, the selection of brands and products on display was impressive. The quality of the offerings reflected the hard work and dedication of the operators who have weathered the ups and downs of this industry. From craft cultivators to innovative product manufacturers, the Emerald Cup showcased a diverse array of cannabis goods that highlighted the creativity and expertise within our community.

I was particularly excited to see brands like Purple City Genetics and these friends again reminded me of the tight-knit nature of the cannabis community, particularly in NorCal, where the legacy of the plant runs deep. The conversations we had were not just about business, but about the culture, the challenges, and the victories that have shaped our industry.

Among the standout brands in attendance were Purple City Genetics and Humboldt Seed Co., both known for their exceptional genetics and commitment to quality. Bigfoot Cannabis Co. from Willow Creek also made a strong impression with their unique and high-quality products. The presence of Zenlife Organics Dispensary from Sacramento and Sense from San Francisco added to the diverse representation of Northern California’s offerings.

In addition to cannabis products, the event also featured Oakland Hyphae’s Psilocybin brand, which highlighted the growing interest in the medicinal and therapeutic potential of psychedelics. This inclusion underscored the broader cultural shift towards embracing natural, plant-based medicines.

The Equity Trade Network was also in attendance, showcasing a variety of brands and supporters committed to promoting equity and inclusion within the cannabis industry. Their presence served as a reminder of the ongoing work needed to ensure that the industry remains accessible and fair for all.

Walking through the event, I was struck by the care and craftsmanship that went into each product. Whether it was a beautifully cultivated flower, a carefully crafted edible, or a thoughtfully designed accessory, it was clear that these brands are not just in the business of cannabis—they are in the business of creating experiences. The smaller crowd allowed for more meaningful interactions with the exhibitors, giving me the opportunity to learn about the stories behind the brands and the people who bring them to life.

The Outdoor Vibe: A Highlight of the Event

Without a doubt, my favorite part of the 20th anniversary of the Emerald Cup was the outdoor area. With a DJ setting the perfect mood and the ability to consume cannabis legally in a relaxed setting, this space was a big vibe. There’s something incredibly liberating about being able to enjoy cannabis openly, surrounded by a community that shares the same appreciation for the plant. The music, the atmosphere, and the camaraderie all came together to create a truly special experience.

This outdoor area wasn’t just a place to consume—it was a space where the essence of the Emerald Cup came alive. It captured the spirit of the event, where the boundaries between work and play blurred, and the focus shifted to enjoying the moment. The freedom to consume legally, paired with the infectious energy of the crowd, made this part of the event unforgettable. It’s experiences like this that remind us why we continue to push for progress in the cannabis industry—to create spaces where the culture can thrive openly and joyfully.

Supporting the Industry and Pushing the Culture Forward

As I reflect on the 20th anniversary of the Emerald Cup, I’m reminded of why events like this are so important. Supporting the hard work of cannabis operators and pushing the culture forward is rewarding in its own special way. It’s about more than just attending an event—it’s about being part of a movement that values quality, community, and the power of the plant. The Emerald Cup is a testament to the resilience and creativity of our industry, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.

The 20th anniversary of the Emerald Cup was not just a celebration of cannabis—it was a celebration of the people, the culture, and the progress we’ve made. As we look to the future, I’m excited to see how our industry will continue to evolve, and I’m committed to supporting the operators and the community that make it all possible.

Here’s to another 20 years of growth, innovation, and celebration in the world of cannabis.
